Lakkundi Set for Major Heritage Boost
The Karnataka State Government is working to protect and restore the historic village of Lakkundi.
They plan to add more temples and wells to the list of protected monuments and will start special digs to find and fix old structures.
The government will also build an open-air museum to show off Lakkundi's art and history.
They have given money for these projects and will reward a man who found a treasure and gave it to the authorities.
The government wants people to help by telling them about any hidden historic sites.
The Karnataka government plans to notify 8 more temples and stepwells in Lakkundi as protected monuments by the end of February.
A proposal is being prepared to include 20 more temples and wells in the protected list, bringing the total to 44.
Special excavation drives will be conducted by March to identify and restore buried or invisible temples.
An open-air museum with a budget of Rs 1.65 crore will be constructed to showcase Lakkundi's artistic heritage.
Rs 10 crore has been allocated for the restoration of five selected temples and one ancient well, with work orders to be issued in February.
