India-Japan ties strengthen amid China's Indo-Pacific aggression
India and Japan are becoming closer friends to stand together against China's actions in the Indo-Pacific region.
The Japanese Foreign Minister visited India to talk about important things like technology, security, and trade.
They started new projects together, like talking about artificial intelligence and finding important minerals.
This is part of a bigger group called the Quad, which includes the US and Australia, to keep the Indo-Pacific region safe and fair.
India also wants to be less dependent on other countries by making its own things, and Japan is helping with that.
This visit shows that Japan is a good friend to India in dealing with China's actions in the South China Sea and the Indian Ocean.
Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi visited India from January 15-17, 2026 to strengthen bilateral ties.
The 18th India-Japan Foreign Ministerial Strategic Dialogue launched new initiatives like an AI dialogue mechanism and a Joint Working Group on critical minerals.
The visit emphasized economic security and technology transfers, aligning with India's Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
The Quad framework (India, Japan, US, Australia) is pivotal in promoting a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP).
The partnership aims to counter China's maritime assertiveness and strengthen global governance through platforms like the G20 and UN.
