IIT Bombay, IISc and IBM Expand AI, Quantum Research
IIT Bombay, the Indian Institute of Science and IBM are joining forces to study new computer technologies.
They will work on artificial intelligence and quantum computing.
They will also study AI designed for India and Indian languages.
This includes making language models work better in several Indian languages.
The teams will explore AI that can understand more than one type of information, such as text and images.
They will also study how people and AI can work together.
Another goal is to improve software programming education and intelligent computer operations.
The partnership builds on IBM’s earlier collaboration with IIT Bombay.
IIT Bombay and the Indian Institute of Science partnered with IBM on AI and quantum computing research.
The collaboration covers agentic AI, sovereign AI, quantum computing and next-generation computing systems.
IBM researchers will work with IIT Bombay faculty and students under a collaboration dating to 2018.
Research areas include Indic language models, multimodal AI, AI infrastructure and knowledge retrieval.
The partners aim to improve multilingual AI for Indian languages and support education, human-AI collaboration and hybrid-cloud operations.
