Pune's Transport Infrastructure Gets Major Upgrades
Pune is getting some big upgrades to its transportation system.
The old terminal at the Pune airport is being renovated and will have more check-in counters and boarding gates.
A new airport in Purandar is also being planned, and most farmers have agreed to give their land for it.
Additionally, the city's bus service, PMPML, is getting 1,500 more buses to make travel easier for everyone.
These changes will help make traveling in and around Pune much better.
The old terminal at Pune International Airport is being renovated and will have 14 additional check-in counters and 2 more boarding gates, expected to be completed by March 2025.
Construction of the new Purandar airport is set to begin in the second quarter of next year, with 96% of farmers consenting to land acquisition.
The PMPML bus fleet will increase from 2,000 to 3,500 buses by April-May 2025, with 1,000 new CNG buses ordered from Leyland and Tata.
The Purandar airport project has faced opposition from farmers for the past 10 years, primarily due to land acquisition and compensation issues.
The renovated old terminal at Pune International Airport will have a total of 48 check-in counters and 12 boarding gates once completed.
