Israeli Film 'The Sea' Sparks Controversy

Israeli Film 'The Sea' Sparks Controversy

There's a new movie called 'The Sea' made by an Israeli director named Shai Carmeli-Pollak.

It's about a 12-year-old Palestinian boy named Khaled who really wants to see the sea.

He lives in the West Bank, which doesn't have a coastline, so he and his classmates plan a trip to the sea.

But when they get to an Israeli checkpoint, Khaled is not allowed to go because there's a problem with his papers.

So, Khaled decides to go to the sea by himself, even though it's dangerous.

The director got the idea for the story from his experiences as a peace activist in the West Bank.

The movie won some big awards in Israel and is now Israel's entry for the Oscars.

But it's also causing some controversy because of its subject matter.

Some people in the Israeli government don't like it, and some Hollywood stars are boycotting it.

The producer, Baher Agbariya, who has worked with Palestinian directors before, stands by the film and thinks it's a very human story.
