Surgeons Remove 7-cm Brain Tumor from Two-Year-Old
Doctors in Chandigarh did a special surgery to remove a big brain tumor from a very young child.
The tumor was 7 centimeters and was pressing on the child's eye and nose.
The doctors used a tiny camera to see inside and remove the tumor without making a big cut.
This is a very rare type of tumor in kids, and the doctors are happy they could help the child.
A team of neurosurgeons and ENT surgeons at PGIMER, Chandigarh, successfully removed a 7-cm brain tumor from a two-year-old child using endoscopy.
The tumor was a rare meningioma, involving the nose, sinuses, brain, and orbit, causing protrusion of the left eyeball and other symptoms.
The child presented with symptoms including protrusion of the left eyeball, fixity of eye movements, snoring, a mass in the left nostril, and excessive watering of the eye.
This is the first time such a procedure has been performed on a child of this age, with the only other similar case being a 12-year-old girl from Spain in 2020.
The surgery was led by Prof. Dhandapani (Neurosurgery) and Prof. Anurag (ENT), marking a significant medical achievement.
