Kolkata Offers Full Property Tax Interest, Penalty Waiver
Kolkata’s city government says people who owe property tax can get some extra charges removed if they pay.
Residential properties can have all their interest and penalties waived.
Commercial properties and properties used for both homes and businesses get different-sized waivers.
The scheme is planned to last until March 31, 2027.
The city may extend it, but the interest waiver could then be smaller for some properties.
KMC says many people owe property tax, and the unpaid total is more than ₹6,800 crore.
People can pay online or visit a KMC office.
Similar schemes are being introduced in six other municipal corporations in the state.
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation announced a 100% waiver of interest and penalties on residential property tax dues.
Commercial properties receive 70% interest and 99% penalty waivers; mixed-use properties receive 80% and 99%, respectively.
The scheme runs until March 31, 2027, and could be extended with a reduced interest waiver for non-government properties.
KMC reported more than ₹6,800 crore in outstanding property tax through September and over 300,000 defaulters.
