St. Lucia re-elects Pierre as PM

St. Lucia had an important election on Monday, December 1.

The people voted to choose their prime minister and the members of their legislature.

The two main parties were the United Workers Party, led by Allen Chastanet, and the St. Lucia Labour Party, led by the current Prime Minister, Philip Pierre.

The big issues in this election were how to manage the country's money, how to reduce crime, and how to handle the sale of passports to wealthy people.

Allen Chastanet said that crime had gotten worse because the U.S. was not helping as much with police support.

He also wanted more transparency in the program that sells citizenship to investors.

The U.S. is concerned about this program because they think it could be used by people from countries like China or Iran who might want to do bad things.

The U.S. is also increasing its military presence in the Caribbean to try to stop drug trafficking around Venezuela.

In the end, Philip Pierre's party won the election with a majority of seats.
