Lokpal Cancels Rs 5-Crore BMW Car Tender Amid Backlash
The Lokpal, which is like a watchdog against corruption in the government, wanted to buy seven fancy BMW cars for about ₹5 crore.
But many people, including politicians and activists, said this was not a good idea because it looked like a waste of money.
They thought the Lokpal should be more careful with public money.
After a lot of criticism, the Lokpal decided to cancel the plan to buy the cars.
The cars were meant for the head of the Lokpal and six other members.
Some people suggested that instead of buying expensive cars, the Lokpal should consider buying electric cars made in India.
The Lokpal cancelled a tender to buy seven BMW 3 Series 330Li cars worth ₹5 crore.
The decision was made after criticism from opposition parties and civil society.
The tender was issued on October 16, 2025, and cancelled on December 16, 2025.
Critics argued that the purchase was inconsistent with the Lokpal's mandate of austerity and transparency.
The cars were intended for the Lokpal chairperson and six members.
