Delhi HC: COVID Rate Cap Doesn't Limit Insurance Payouts
Imagine you have health insurance, and you went to the hospital for COVID.
The government set rules about how much hospitals can charge.
However, your insurance company tried to pay you less than they should have.
The court said that the government's rules about hospital costs don't mean the insurance company can pay you less than what your insurance covers.
The court ordered the insurance company to pay the remaining amount to the person who had the insurance.
This is because the government's rules were for the hospitals, not for changing what the insurance company owes.
The Delhi High Court ruled on a case related to COVID-19 hospitalisation claims.
The court stated a government circular didn't limit insurance companies' obligations.
Petitioner Reena Goel's claim was partially reimbursed by United India Insurance.
The court found the insurer's reliance on the circular unjustified.
The court directed the insurer to settle the balance claim within four weeks.
