HC halts Odisha teacher transfers under MLA policy
The Orissa High Court has temporarily stopped a new rule in Odisha that lets local leaders suggest moving teachers around.
The court said this could make the system unfair.
The rule was made by the Odisha government to let leaders help with education in their areas.
The court said teachers who have already moved can stay in their new schools until the school year ends.
The government has to explain why the rule is good before the court makes a final decision.
Orissa High Court issued an interim stay on Odisha's policy allowing MLAs and MPs to recommend teacher transfers.
The policy, introduced on May 13, 2024, authorized legislators to recommend transfers of up to 15 teachers each.
Petitioners challenged the policy, arguing it would compromise fairness and transparency in the education system.
The court allowed teachers who have already been transferred to continue in their new postings until the end of the academic session.
The state government must file a detailed response before the next hearing.
