West Bengal to table pending CAG reports on July 25
The West Bengal government, led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, has announced that it will table all pending Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports in the Assembly on July 25.
The government has also stated that it will recommend the registration of FIRs wherever the audit findings establish corruption, regardless of the stature of those involved.
This move is seen as a strong indication that the BJP government intends to use audit findings to pursue criminal proceedings against functionaries of the previous Trinamool Congress administration.
The previous government is accused of failing to place mandatory CAG and Lokayukta reports before the House for years, which is described as a serious violation of legislative accountability.
The government has also announced that all constitutional bodies in the state will become fully functional from August 1, ensuring that they receive complaints from the public and take necessary legal action.
