Sensex tanks 1,247 points as yields, crude pressure markets

Indian stock markets fell sharply on Thursday.

The Sensex dropped 1,247.71 points to 73,580.54.

The Nifty 50 fell 383.70 points to 23,063.10.

Investors were worried because US government borrowing costs rose.

The US 10-year Treasury yield reached about 5.11 percent.

Oil prices also climbed back to about $106 a barrel.

This raised concerns about inflation and borrowing costs.

Geopolitical uncertainty added to the nervous mood, so investors sold shares, especially financial stocks.
