Norway Acquires 2 More Submarines, Long-Range Missiles
Norway is buying two more submarines from Germany, making it a total of six submarines.
These submarines will help Norway keep an eye on Russian submarines in the North Atlantic.
The cost has gone up a lot because of inflation and high demand for military equipment.
Norway is also buying long-range missiles that can hit targets up to 500 km away.
This is important because the war in Ukraine has shown how useful missiles can be.
The first submarine is expected to arrive in 2029.
Norway is doing this to make sure it can defend itself and deter any potential enemies.
Norway plans to buy two additional submarines from Germany's Thyssenkrupp, bringing the total order to six submarines.
The updated submarine order will cost 46 billion crowns ($4.55 billion), with the total cost close to 100 billion crowns due to inflation and high demand for military equipment.
Norway will also procure long-range missiles for its army, capable of reaching targets 500 km (310 miles) away, at a cost of 19 billion crowns.
The submarines will be used to monitor Russian submarines based on the Kola Peninsula in the Arctic, bordering Norway.
The first submarine is expected to be delivered in 2029, with the acquisitions aimed at boosting Norway's defence capabilities and deterring potential enemies.
