Maoists Request Time for Surrender
The Maoists, a group that has been fighting against the government in some parts of India, have asked for more time to stop their armed struggle.
They want until February 15, 2026, to talk to their members and decide how to surrender peacefully.
The government has set a deadline of March 31, 2026, to end the Maoist problem.
The Maoists say they will not celebrate an important event to show they are serious.
The government has been spending a lot of money to fight the Maoists and help those who want to surrender.
Many Maoist leaders have already surrendered or been killed, which has made the group weaker.
Maoists from Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh requested time until February 15, 2026, to suspend arms struggle and facilitate surrender.
The request was made in a letter signed by Anant, spokesperson of the Maharashtra-Madhya Pradesh-Chhattisgarh Special Zonal Committee.
The letter cited the surrender of Central Committee member Sonu and other leaders, as well as the killing of top Naxal leader Madvi Hidma.
The government has set a deadline of March 31, 2026, to end Maoism, with significant financial commitment to anti-Naxal operations.
The Maoists promised not to celebrate the formation of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army week as a goodwill gesture.
