Opposition Walks Out Over Cotton, Soybean Procurement Issues
The opposition members in the Maharashtra Assembly walked out because they were upset about how the government is handling the buying of cotton and soybean from farmers.
They said the government is not doing enough to help the farmers and there are problems with the prices and the places where these crops are bought.
Some members from the ruling party also agreed that the minister in charge did not know enough about what was happening.
The speaker of the Assembly said he would hold a meeting to talk about these issues, but the opposition wanted the government to make a statement instead.
Even after the Chief Minister tried to calm things down, the opposition members left the Assembly.
Opposition members walked out of the Maharashtra Assembly protesting the government's handling of cotton and soybean procurement.
They alleged irregularities and claimed the government is not providing the guaranteed Minimum Support Price (MSP) for soybean.
Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar criticized the removal of import duty on cotton, which he said would lower prices.
Ruling party MLAs also expressed dissatisfaction with the minister's responses during Question Hour.
Speaker Rahul Narvekar assured a meeting to resolve the issues, but the opposition demanded a government statement instead.
