BMC Delays Release of Sakinaka Manhole Probe Report

A 55‑year‑old man named Aslam Shaikh fell into an open manhole in Sakinaka, Mumbai, on July 2, 2026, and died.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) set up a committee to investigate, but a month later the report is still not out.

Four BMC officers were suspended for negligence, but the contractor who left the manhole open was only given a notice, not arrested.

Opposition leader Ashraf Azmi is demanding the report be released and that all responsible people face stricter action.
