Judge Blocks Trump Administration Border Barrier Construction in Big Bend

A judge has temporarily stopped the government from building border infrastructure in the Big Bend area of Texas.

The decision will stay in place while a lawsuit about the project moves through court.

The government had planned to build roads, monitoring equipment and barriers there.

Workers began clearing land in August, leading to protests and legal challenges.

The group bringing the lawsuit says the government did not properly follow environmental rules.

The judge said the challengers are likely to win some of their claims and could suffer serious harm if work continues.

A border agency official had already paused construction.

Senator John Cornyn and other local critics have asked officials to reconsider the project.
