Nayara Raises Petrol and Diesel Prices as Oil Costs Rise
Nayara Energy has made petrol and diesel more expensive at its fuel stations.
Petrol costs Rs 5 more per litre, and diesel costs Rs 3 more.
The new prices began on Saturday, October 3, across its stations in India.
The company says higher global oil costs have made it more expensive to supply fuel.
Nayara made the same increases in March, but lowered prices again in July when crude oil became cheaper.
State-run fuel companies did not change their prices that Saturday.
Icra estimated that fuel companies were losing money on petrol and diesel in September.
Higher prices can cost drivers and businesses more, while unchanged prices can leave fuel sellers carrying losses.
Nayara Energy raised petrol prices by Rs 5 per litre and diesel by Rs 3, effective Saturday, October 3.
The increase applies across Nayara’s nationwide network of more than 7,000 fuel stations; sources give the network as 7,108.
Nayara made the same increases on March 26, then cut prices by the same amounts on July 1 after crude prices eased.
State-owned oil companies, which control more than 90% of India’s 104,137 fuel outlets, did not revise prices on Saturday.
Icra estimated September marketing losses of about Rs 8 per litre for petrol and Rs 9 for diesel, with daily losses of about Rs 530 crore across petrol, diesel and LPG.
