Delhi Hostel Building Collapse Exposes Unsafe Renovation and Neglect

Delhi Hostel Building Collapse Exposes Unsafe Renovation and Neglect

A very old building in Delhi was changed into a hostel for students.

The building was about 50 years old and had not been fully repaired.

Around 30 rooms were planned, with two or three students in each room.

Construction workers were still working in the basement when the building fell.

Heavy rain had caused water to collect around and inside the basement.

At least three people died, and several others were hurt.

Six people were rescued, including two workers.

People living nearby said some houses were being changed into hostels without owners regularly checking them.

The authorities later registered a case against the building’s owner.
