Indian markets open higher on US-Iran peace deal hopes
Imagine a big market where people buy and sell small pieces of companies — that is the stock market.
On Thursday, that market in India started the day with prices moving up.
People felt hopeful because there might be a peace deal between the United States and Iran.
Companies also said their earnings were better than expected, which made investors happy.
Some types of companies, like medicine and technology makers, saw their prices go up a little.
Others, like car and cement companies, saw prices go down a little.
Investors from other countries sold some shares, while big Indian institutions bought even more shares.
There are reports that Iran and Oman are working on an agreement to end the US-Iran war, which would give Iran control over ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
Because of this hope, the price of oil went down a little bit.
Lower oil prices can be good news because fuel and many products might cost less.
Indian markets opened higher on Thursday, with the Sensex up 0.25% and Nifty up 0.03%, on hopes of a US-Iran peace deal and a strong June earnings season.
IT, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and healthcare stocks gained up to 0.50%, while cement, metal, auto and realty sectors declined by up to 0.52%.
Foreign institutional investors turned net sellers on Wednesday, offloading Indian equities worth Rs 943 crore, while domestic institutions purchased Rs 2,883 crore.
Reports claim a proposed agreement between Iran and Oman would give Tehran control over ships entering the Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz to help end the US-Iran war.
Brent crude slipped 0.51% to below $80 per barrel, while US WTI crude declined 0.77% to $74.64.
Analysts said the August monetary policy did not influence market trends and that a rate hike is still some time away.
