New Land Customs Station at Assam-Bhutan Border
A new Land Customs Station (LCS) is being built at Samrang in Assam, near the border with Bhutan.
This station will help with trading goods between India and Bhutan.
The Assam government and Bhutan's consulate in Guwahati talked about how to make this new station work well.
There are already two such stations at Darranga and Hatisar, where a lot of trading happens.
The new station at Samrang will make it easier for people to buy and sell things across the border.
A new Land Customs Station (LCS) is being set up at Samrang in Udalguri district, Assam, along the Indo-Bhutan border.
Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota and Consul General of Bhutan in Guwahati Jigme Thinlye Namgyal discussed the operationalization of the new LCS.
A committee of stakeholders conducted a joint site visit to explore measures for developing Samrang into a functional border point.
Currently, there are two LCSs along the Assam-Bhutan border: Darranga (Baksa) and Hatisar (Chirang).
Trade volume through Darranga LCS in 2023-24 was Rs 1096 crore, with exports at Rs 736.42 crore and imports at Rs 359.61 crore; trade through Hatisar was Rs 811 crore.
