Pharma firms owe Rs 8,500 crore; panel seeks legal cell

Some medicine companies in India have rules they must follow.

The government tells them the highest price they can charge for important medicines.

If they charge more, they have to give the extra money back.

These companies owe more than 8,500 crore rupees because they charged too much.

That is a very, very big amount of money.

Most of the money is stuck in courts because companies and the government disagree.

A committee in Parliament studied the problem.

It said the medicine price watchdog should get its own team of lawyers to speed things up.

It also said rules should be clearer so fights happen less often.

The goal is to make sure medicines stay affordable for everyone.
