Tata Motors Q1 profit surges 83% to ₹2,556 crore
Tata Motors is a big company in India that makes trucks and other commercial vehicles.
The company told people how much money it made in the first three months of its new financial year.
It made a lot more profit than last year, as its profit jumped by 83%.
Some of that profit came from money the company invested in another business called Tata Capital.
Even without that, the company still earned more money than before.
People bought lots of Tata Motors trucks, so the company sold more vehicles.
Prices for materials and fuel went up, so Tata Motors had to charge customers a little more.
The company is also trying to buy another truck company called Iveco from Europe.
It is waiting for permission from France to finish the deal.
Even though times were tough, Tata Motors did very well this quarter.
Tata Motors' consolidated net profit surged 83% year-on-year to ₹2,556 crore in the June quarter, helped by investment gains in Tata Capital.
Excluding those gains, standalone net profit rose 8% to ₹1,528 crore and operating margin slipped 90 basis points to 10.9%.
Revenue jumped 19% to ₹20,667 crore on strong domestic demand despite high fuel prices tied to the West Asia conflict.
The company gained 100 basis points of market share versus the March quarter and has raised prices to offset inflation.
Its $4.4-billion acquisition of Italian CV maker Iveco, delayed twice, now awaits French approval with closure expected in November.
