Western Railway Disruptions Cause Commuter Chaos
On December 27, 2025, many people who travel on the Western Railway in Mumbai had a tough time because many trains were cancelled or delayed.
This happened because there was important work being done on the railway tracks between Borivali and Kandivali.
The railway company had to cancel 629 trains over three days, which made it very crowded and difficult for people to get to work or school on time.
Some trains that usually go all the way to Borivali or Andheri only went as far as Goregaon, which meant people had to change trains and deal with even more crowds.
The work is expected to continue until mid-January 2026, so commuters will have to keep dealing with these problems for a while.
The railway company is doing this work to make the railway better in the long run, but it's causing a lot of trouble for people right now.
Western Railway cancelled 629 suburban services between December 27 and December 29, 2025, due to ongoing work on the sixth railway line.
On Saturday, December 27, 2025, 296 services were cancelled, causing significant delays and overcrowding.
Trains originating from Borivali and Andheri were operating only up to Goregaon, leading to forced transfers and further congestion.
Platforms 8 and 9 at Borivali station were closed until December 29, 2025, adding to the commuters' woes.
The disruption is part of a 30-day traffic block imposed from December 20, 2025, to January 18, 2026, for intensive work on the Kandivali–Borivali stretch.
