76 Dalits Convert to Buddhism in Ahmedabad
On Ashok Vijayadashami, 76 people from different parts of Gujarat, who were part of Hinduism, chose to become Buddhists.
This event happened in Ahmedabad and was organized by the Gujarat Buddhist Academy.
These individuals made this decision because they felt Buddhism offers equality, and they experienced discrimination in their previous religion.
The converts took 22 vows, similar to those taken by Dr. B R Ambedkar when he converted to Buddhism.
They wanted to be part of a religion where everyone is treated fairly and feels a sense of belonging.
Many shared they converted because of their experiences with discrimination.
