SC Disposes Telangana's Plea on Polavaram Project
The Supreme Court in New Delhi decided to close a case brought by the Telangana government against a big water project in Andhra Pradesh called the Polavaram Project.
The court said Telangana should file a new case under a different law (Article 131) instead.
This law helps the court solve problems between states or between states and the central government.
The Polavaram Project is about building a dam and canals to bring water to farms.
Telangana said the project is being expanded without proper approvals and could take too much water.
The court also suggested that all the states involved and the central government should try to solve the problem together through talks.
Meanwhile, the BRS party in Telangana accused the Congress state government of deliberately delaying the case to help Andhra Pradesh move forward with the project, calling it a 'Sankranti gift' to AP.
The BRS claims that the Congress government is trying to give Andhra Pradesh more time to complete the project and take water that belongs to Telangana.
Supreme Court disposed of Telangana's writ petition against Polavaram project, allowed fresh lawsuit under Article 131.
Court found writ petition not maintainable under Article 32, as it involved multiple states and the Centre.
Telangana alleges Polavaram project's expansion violates Central Water Commission recommendations and environmental clearances.
Andhra Pradesh argues the project's detailed project report was approved after considering all stakeholders' comments.
BRS accuses Congress of deliberately delaying the case to benefit Andhra Pradesh, calling it a 'Sankranti gift' to AP.
