Villagers Worship Formerly Feared Monkey

A long time ago, a monkey came to a village called Dharmaram.

At first, the monkey was friendly and lived with the villagers for two years.

But then, it became aggressive and started hurting people and animals.

The villagers tried to chase it away, but one day, they accidentally hurt it so badly that it died.

After the monkey died, the villagers felt very sad and missed it.

One villager even said the monkey came to him in a dream and asked for a temple to be built in its honor.

So, the villagers built a temple called Kothidevuni Temple where the monkey was buried.

Every year, they celebrate a festival called Jatara to worship the monkey, treating it like a god.

Many people from nearby villages also come to join the celebrations.
