New Study Identifies Thyroid Cancer Genes in Indian Patients
Scientists studied thyroid cancer in Indian patients to find new things about the disease.
They found that a gene called DUOX2 can cause a common type of thyroid cancer to come back.
They also found two different groups of this cancer, one that is often aggressive and another new group that may be hard to treat.
In another study, they found a gene called THRA that causes a deadly type of thyroid cancer to grow faster.
These discoveries could help doctors give patients personalized treatments, maybe even preventing some cancers from coming back.
Indian study identifies novel risk genes and molecular subtypes in thyroid cancer.
Researchers analyzed DNA from Indian patients, discovering DUOX2 gene mutations in papillary thyroid cancer (PTC).
Two PTC subtypes were identified: BRAF-RAS-driven and iBR (Independent of BRAF-RAS).
Mutations in the THRA gene were found in anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) patients.
Findings could lead to personalized treatment approaches for thyroid cancer in Indian patients.
