New York Woman Charged in Human Smuggling Scheme
A woman from New York named Stacey Taylor has been charged with helping people cross the border from Canada into the United States illegally.
She was caught with four men in her car, three from India and one from Canada, who had just crossed the border without going through the proper checks.
The police found messages on her phone that linked her to other smuggling activities.
She has been charged with several crimes and could go to prison for a long time if she is found guilty.
This is part of a bigger problem where people are trying to enter the US through the northern border with Canada, especially from India.
Stacey Taylor, a 42-year-old woman from Plattsburgh, New York, was indicted for her role in an international human smuggling network.
She was charged with one count of conspiracy to engage in alien smuggling and four counts of alien smuggling for profit.
Three of the smuggling counts are classified as 'second or subsequent offences', which carry a mandatory minimum of five years in prison each.
Taylor was first caught in January 2025 with four foreign nationals in her car, who had illegally crossed the US-Canada border.
Investigators found text messages on her phone that linked her to multiple other smuggling ventures.
