CBI Books Defence Accounts Officials, Middleman And Contractors For Bribery

The CBI is a police agency in India that investigates big crimes.

It has started a case about bribery — secretly paying money to get special treatment.

Some people who work in an office that handles money for India's defence ministry are accused.

The accused include an accounts officer named Subhash Kumar and an auditor named Urvashi Kumawat.

A middleman named Adinath Popalkar is also accused; he passed money between contractors and the officials.

The CBI says three companies that got defence contracts worth Rs 1.22 crore paid money to Popalkar.

Popalkar then sent some of that money to the officials, the CBI alleges.

The case began after a complaint by an official named Mani Velan K. The CBI is still investigating to find out exactly what happened.
