Central Railway plans January demolition of Elphinstone bridge
The Central Railway is planning to demolish a very old bridge called the Elphinstone Road Overbridge in Mumbai.
This bridge is between Parel and Prabhadevi.
They are going to do this work in January, around the 25th and 26th, because there will be fewer people traveling on those days due to the Republic Day holiday.
The demolition will take about 13 to 15 hours.
The reason they are doing this is to make way for a new road called the Sewri–Worli Elevated Connector.
This new road will help cars move more easily from the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link to the western part of the city.
The railway and a group called the Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation are working together to make this happen.
Central Railway plans to demolish the Elphinstone Road Overbridge (ROB) between Parel and Prabhadevi in Mumbai.
The demolition is scheduled for January 25-26, 2024, during a public holiday to minimize disruption.
The 132-meter stretch of the century-old bridge will be removed to clear space for the Sewri–Worli Elevated Connector.
The main demolition will take approximately 13-15 hours, with shorter blocks before and after for preparatory and finishing work.
The project is a joint effort between the Central Railway and the Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (MRIDC).
