India's Industrial Production Surges, Consumer Demand Weakens
India’s industrial production went up a lot in June 2026, growing 7.3% compared to last year.
This is the biggest jump in almost two years.
The rise is mainly because factories making big machines, roads, and other infrastructure are producing more.
But the goods people buy for everyday use, like food and clothes, are not growing as fast.
This shows that while the country is building more, people are not buying as many everyday items, partly because prices are high and some products face trade problems.
India’s IIP rose 7.3% YoY in June 2026, the highest in 23 months.
Growth driven by capital, infrastructure, and intermediate goods, while consumer non‑durables lag.
June marks the third consecutive month of accelerating YoY growth.
Weak consumer demand linked to higher prices and tariff uncertainties in pharmaceuticals, electronics, apparel, and leather.
Supply disruptions in West Asia have dampened primary goods output.
