Sachin Tendulkar's 1995 WorldTel Contract Changed Indian Cricket Forever

Long ago, Indian cricket players did not earn a lot of money from ads and television.

Most of the money went to the government's TV channel, and players only got small match fees.

In 1995, a man named Mark Mascarenhas signed a deal with Sachin Tendulkar, a very famous young cricketer.

Mascarenhas promised Sachin's family 2.5 million dollars over five years to handle his business.

That was the biggest deal ever given to an Indian cricketer at the time.

Because of it, Sachin could focus on cricket while his manager sold ad deals for bats, drinks, shoes and more.

Sachin became a bigger and bigger star, and companies paid more and more money for him.

Later he became an investor, putting money into companies and property.

Today people say his fortune is worth around 170 million dollars.

The deal changed how all of Indian sport makes money.
