India's Dhruv-NG Helicopter Takes Maiden Flight
On December 30th, 2025, India celebrated a big moment in aviation.
A company called Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) flew a new helicopter for the first time.
This helicopter, called the Dhruv-NG, is special because it was completely designed and built in India.
It's strong enough to fly over the Himalayas and gentle enough to carry a newborn baby to a hospital.
The helicopter has two powerful engines made in India, a high-tech cockpit, and can fly very high and far.
It can be used for many things like transporting people, carrying cargo, or helping in emergencies.
This new helicopter is a big deal because it's made in India and can compete with other helicopters from around the world.
It's also more affordable and can be maintained easily in India.
The Civil Aviation Minister, Ram Mohan Naidu, was very proud and said it was a major step towards making India self-reliant in aviation.
The ALH Dhruv – NG helicopter had its inaugural flight on December 30th, 2025, marking a significant milestone in Indian civil aviation.
The helicopter is a 5.5-tonne, twin-engine aircraft designed to operate in diverse terrains, from deserts to high altitudes.
It features indigenous Shakti 1H1C engines, a glass cockpit meeting AS4 requirements, and advanced safety features like crashworthy seats and self-sealing fuel tanks.
The Dhruv NG is versatile, capable of configuring for VIP transport, commuter operations, medical services, and more, with a range of 630 km and a service ceiling of 6,000 meters.
HAL's 'One-Stop Solution' approach ensures domestic manufacturing, maintenance, and upgrades, making the Dhruv NG a cost-effective alternative to imported helicopters.
