Maharashtra Moves to Revive Student Elections After 33 Years

Maharashtra Moves to Revive Student Elections After 33 Years

Students in Maharashtra have not voted in campus elections since 1993.

The state government now wants to study whether those elections can return.

It created a 12-member committee to examine the issue.

Prof Suhas Pednekar, a former Mumbai University vice-chancellor, will lead the committee.

The committee has one month to prepare its report.

It will speak with people affected by campus elections.

It will suggest ways to make voting peaceful, fair and open to everyone.

It will also consider how to prevent outside political groups and businesses from controlling the elections.
