Trump Sends Saudi Nuclear Pact to Congress, Demands Israel Recognition

President Donald Trump sent a proposed nuclear-energy agreement with Saudi Arabia to Congress.

The agreement would let American companies help Saudi Arabia build a civilian nuclear program.

It is expected to last 30 years and could include AP1000 reactors.

Trump says the deal will only proceed if Saudi Arabia recognizes Israel through the Abraham Accords.

Saudi Arabia says it wants a clear and irreversible path toward a Palestinian state first.

This creates a disagreement between the United States, Saudi Arabia and Israel.

Congress has 90 days while in session to review the agreement.

Lawmakers are also concerned about uranium enrichment and whether the deal could increase nuclear competition in the region.

If Congress does not reject the pact through a joint resolution, it can take effect after the review period.
