Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is visiting Birbhum for the first time since becoming chief minister.

He will go to Tarapith on Saturday.

He is expected to pray at the temple and open a new Seva Kendra.

Officials will also meet to discuss how the district collects money from sand and stone mining.

The visit follows several serious events in the area, including a hotel fire that killed nine people.

Many pilgrims are expected at Tarapith for Kaushiki Amavasya on September 10.

Officials are adding cameras, lifeguards, fire equipment, water and electricity supplies to keep people safe.
