Durga Puja Preparations Underway as Artisans Craft Idols
Durga Puja is coming soon, and the excitement is building!
In Kolkata, artists are busy making the idols of the goddess Durga.
They use clay to create the figures of Durga, her family, the lion, and the demon Mahishasura.
It's a lot of hard work and patience.
You can already see the unfinished idols, and it reminds everyone the festival is about to begin.
The festival will start on September 28, 2025, and last for several days.
This is when people will come together to celebrate.
Artisans in Kumartuli and Kalighat's Patuapara are creating Durga Puja idols.
Idol makers shape straw frames and apply layers of clay to form the goddess and her family.
Craftsmen are working on the lion and Mahishasura, while others carve the goddess's features.
Half-made idols are transported through narrow streets on handcarts.
Durga Puja will be celebrated from September 28 to October 2, 2025.
