Command Hospital Chandimandir Administers First CAR-T Therapy

A hospital in Chandimandir has used CAR-T therapy for the first time.

The patient was a 16-year-old with a difficult blood cancer.

Doctors take some of a patient’s immune cells, called T-cells, and change them in a laboratory.

The changed cells are then returned to the patient.

These cells are designed to find and attack cancer cells.

The treatment can help some people whose blood cancer has returned or has not responded to other treatments.

The hospital is the second Command Hospital in India’s military healthcare system to provide this therapy.

Its haematology centre has also completed nine bone marrow transplants.
