Railways Charged Rs 168 Crore Superfast Surcharge Despite Low Speeds

Railways Charged Rs 168 Crore Superfast Surcharge Despite Low Speeds

Some trains in India are called superfast because they are supposed to travel very quickly.

When people ride a superfast train, they pay a little extra money for the ticket.

That extra money is called a superfast surcharge.

A special checking group called the CAG looked closely at these trains.

They wanted to see if the trains were really fast enough for the extra charge.

The group found that many trains were collecting the extra money even though they were not fast enough.

More than 190 trains charged passengers this way.

Over one year, passengers paid 168 crore rupees extra for these not-so-fast trains.

The checking group wrote a report about this problem.

Now people know they may have paid too much for their train tickets.
