He will now take on a new role in a political advisory organization in China.
His replacement, Zhang Yong, is the executive vice president of Cosco Shipping.
Qi Bin is also known for his work on the Stock Connect, which allows trading between Hong Kong and Mainland China.
He has a background in biophysics and an MBA from the University of Chicago.
