India's Tax Revenue Falls After GST Cuts
The Indian government recently cut taxes on many consumer goods to encourage people to buy more.
They hoped that more people buying things would make up for the lower tax rates.
However, the government's revenue from taxes actually went down by 4.2% in November.
They collected Rs 1.70 lakh crore in taxes, which is a small increase from last year, but not enough to offset the cuts.
A study found that the new tax rates will save people money, especially in rural areas.
The government believes these changes will help the economy in the long run, but some experts are worried about the short-term impact on the budget.
Government revenue fell 4.2% in November 2025 due to GST cuts.
Gross GST collection was Rs 1.70 lakh crore, up 0.7% from November 2024.
Net GST revenue was Rs 1.52 lakh crore, up 1.3% from November 2024.
GST reforms reduced the average tax liability rate to 4-6% from 5-7%.
Rural and urban areas saw a decrease in GST liability by 13-20% and 11-16% respectively.
