AISA-ABVP clash at Ambedkar University Delhi during freshers' orientation
On a Friday in August, two groups of students got into a fight during a welcome event for new students at Ambedkar University Delhi, a university in New Delhi, India.
The two groups are called AISA and ABVP, and they have different political ideas.
Each group says the other one started the fight.
AISA says that ABVP members hit its activists, who were talking to new students, and warned them to stop doing political activities at the university.
AISA also says that campus security guards came late, did not stop the fight, and asked its members to stop filming.
ABVP says its volunteers had set up a help desk at the welcome event and that AISA members shouted rude things and tried to remove the desk.
A video of the fight was posted on social media by AISA.
The university did not say anything right away, so for now we only have each group's own version of what happened.
Supporters of AISA and ABVP clashed during a freshers' orientation programme at Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD) on Friday, August 7.
AISA alleged that an ABVP member assaulted its activists and threatened violence if they continued political activities in the department.
AISA claimed campus security arrived late, failed to intervene, and asked its members to stop recording video.
ABVP accused AISA of making provocative remarks and trying to forcibly remove its welcome helpdesk set up for freshers.
A video of the altercation shared by AISA showed both groups arguing before the exchange turned into a physical scuffle; the university gave no immediate response.

AISA says its activists were attacked by ABVP members during the freshers' meet and were threatened with violence if they continued political activities in the department.
ABVP (RSS-affiliated students' body)
ABVP says AISA activists approached its welcome helpdesk, made provocative remarks, and tried to remove it forcibly, starting the confrontation.
Root cause of the scuffle
AISA (Left-backed students' body)
AISA says the scuffle originated from new university administration notifications, including one requiring prior permission for campus gatherings, which it says aimed to curb democratic student activities.
ABVP (RSS-affiliated students' body)
ABVP says its helpdesk was part of an annual outreach to assist freshers, and that creating a confrontation, generating controversy, and then portraying itself as victims is AISA's modus operandi.
Assault on activist Aameen
AISA (Left-backed students' body)
AISA leader Jigyasa said the assault on Aameen, an activist recovering after a 23-day hunger strike for student rights, shows ABVP's 'complete moral and political bankruptcy.'
