Modi to inaugurate Guwahati's bamboo orchid terminal
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to open a new airport terminal in Guwahati, Assam.
The terminal is special because it is made from bamboo and foxtail orchids, which are materials from the local area.
This makes it a unique and eco-friendly building.
The terminal can handle a lot of passengers and will help connect the Northeast of India with other parts of Asia.
The Prime Minister will also visit other places in Assam during his two-day trip.
The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has said that the terminal is ready and looks beautiful.
He also talked about the upcoming elections and how the government is preparing for them.
The BJP is focusing on development and political outreach in Assam ahead of the 2026 elections.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new Bamboo Orchids Terminal at Guwahati airport on December 20.
The terminal is built using bamboo and foxtail orchids, reflecting Assam's cultural identity and sustainable architecture.
The terminal has a capacity to handle 13.1 million passengers per annum (MPPA) and cost Rs 4,000 crore to build.
The new terminal aims to strengthen connectivity between India’s Northeast and Southeast Asia and improve cargo facilities.
During his visit, PM Modi will also visit Namrup, the BJP headquarters, and the recently inaugurated martyrs’ memorial, and discuss future infrastructure plans around the airport.
