Centre Sanctions ₹313 Crore for North Bengal Tea Workers
The central government has approved ₹313.30 crore to help tea workers and their families in north Bengal.
The money will be used in tea-growing areas such as Darjeeling, Terai and the Dooars.
Suvendu Adhikari announced the approval on Thursday.
The funding comes through a government scheme for tea workers.
Officials have not yet explained exactly how all the money will be spent.
It may help improve schools, healthcare and basic infrastructure.
Adhikari also said Bengal and Assam had earlier been offered a larger tea-sector fund.
He said Assam used that money, while Bengal submitted its proposal only after the current government came to power.
The Centre has sanctioned ₹313.30 crore for tea workers and their families in north Bengal.
The funding covers tea estates in the Darjeeling hills, Terai and Dooars.
Suvendu Adhikari said the money was approved under the Pradhan Mantri Cha Shramik Protsahan Yojana.
The fund is expected to support education, healthcare and infrastructure, although detailed plans were not provided.
Adhikari said Bengal submitted the proposal after the current government took office, contrasting it with the previous government’s handling of an earlier allocation.
