Singapore Lawmaker Challenges Air India’s $1.5 Billion Funding Request

Singapore Lawmaker Challenges Air India’s $1.5 Billion Funding Request

Air India wants its owners to provide about $1.5 billion more.

Tata Group owns most of the airline, and Singapore Airlines owns about one-quarter.

Singapore Airlines is partly owned by Temasek, a Singapore state-owned investment company.

A Singapore lawmaker said Singapore taxpayers should not have to help pay for Air India’s problems.

He said Singapore Airlines should use its own money if it decides to keep investing.

Air India and Air India Express lost a combined $2.33 billion in the latest fiscal year mentioned.

Singapore Airlines has also reported losses connected to its Air India investment, according to the reports.

Air India is spending billions to improve its business and refurbish planes.

No final decision has been made about the new funding request.
