Kerala Local Bypolls Test UDF Momentum and Satheesan Government

Kerala Local Bypolls Test UDF Momentum and Satheesan Government

People in Kerala are voting in elections for 38 local government wards.

These are smaller elections held after seats became vacant.

The vote is important because the Congress-led UDF won a very large victory in the Assembly election in May.

Leaders want to know whether that victory still has support in local communities.

The UDF currently holds 22 of the wards being contested.

The LDF holds 15, and one ward became vacant after a Twenty20 member resigned.

Campaigners discussed electricity, leaders’ travel and government welfare programs.

The BJP-led NDA is also trying to win more local seats.

Counting will happen Tuesday, giving an early indication of political support on the ground.
