Makhachev Sets UFC Record With 17th Straight Win, Beats Garry
A man named Islam Makhachev is one of the best fighters in the world.
He fights in a cage for a group called the UFC.
On Saturday night in Philadelphia, he won his 17th fight in a row.
That is a new UFC record — nobody had ever won that many fights in a row before.
Makhachev beat a challenger named Ian Machado Garry to keep his championship belt.
Another fighter, Mackenzie Dern, also kept her championship by winning her fight.
A 40-year-old fighter named Edson Barboza lost his last fight and decided to retire.
Fighters say goodbye by leaving their gloves in the cage, which is what Barboza did.
The fans in Philadelphia were very loud and happy because the UFC had not been to their city for a long time.
Islam Makhachev set the UFC record with his 17th straight victory, beating Ian Machado Garry by unanimous decision in the UFC 330 main event in Philadelphia.
Makhachev defended his 170-pound championship, winning 49-46 on two scorecards and 48-47 on the third in a competitive fight.
Mackenzie Dern successfully defended her 115-pound strawweight title for the first time with a unanimous decision win over Gillian Robertson.
Edson Barboza retired at age 40 after a lightweight loss to Esteban Ribovics, leaving his gloves in the cage and receiving a standing ovation.
UFC 330 marked the UFC's first fight event in Philadelphia since 2019 and only its third numbered card in the city.
