Mangaluru as India's Next Data Hub
A new study says Mangaluru, a city on the Arabian Sea coast, could be a great place for India to build more submarine cable landing stations.
These stations help with fast and reliable internet connections.
Right now, most of these stations are in Mumbai and Chennai.
Having one in Mangaluru would make the internet more reliable and help connect different parts of India and other countries.
The study also says Mangaluru is safer from earthquakes compared to some other places, making it a good spot for important internet infrastructure.
The report suggests improving internet connections in Mangaluru and attracting more internet service providers to make this happen.
Mangaluru's strategic location and lower seismic risk make it ideal for a submarine cable landing station (CLS).
India currently has only 14 CLS, with most located in Mumbai and Chennai, limiting international data connectivity.
A CLS in Mangaluru would provide redundancy and improve disaster resilience for India's international data traffic.
The study recommends mapping current fibre connectivity and attracting internet service providers to strengthen network infrastructure.
Mangaluru's coastal location and existing energy capacity could enable faster CLS deployment and better connectivity to West Asia, Africa, and Europe.
